Hick Bros played a pivotal role in executing the Bulk Earthworks Contract for Contact Energy Ltd at the Tauhara Geothermal Power Station near Taupo. The comprehensive scope involved managing 800,000m³ of earthworks within a z̄ timeframe, necessitating the movement of 12,000m³ of dirt daily using specialized equipment such as 70T excavators, 50T dump trucks, and 623 scrapers. Innovative construction methodologies, including new compaction techniques, were crucial to meeting industry standards while optimizing existing on-site resources.

The project encompassed the construction of a substantial haul road network, twin box culverts, an HDPE lined pond, two drilling pad rig sites, well pads, and a Transpower switchyard. Notably, the Tauhara Geothermal Power Station, upon completion, will feature the world's largest geothermal steam turbine.

Local workforce engagement and resource utilization were key factors contributing to the project's success, fostering economic growth within the community. Prioritizing the supply chain and maintaining clear communication with suppliers ensured the timely delivery of materials, a critical aspect of the project's timeline. Collaboration with local subcontractors,  played a vital role in securing approvals for locally sourced materials, leading to significant time and cost savings.

Through effective coordination and proactive measures, the project was not only delivered ahead of schedule but also within the allocated budget. This successful endeavor at the Tauhara Geothermal Power Station underscores Hick Bros' commitment to innovation, local collaboration, and efficient project management.
